DIY Garden Games – Obstacle Course
Time is ticking away all too quickly until the children are back in school, so for a little distraction with a difference for the remainder of the holidays why not install a DIY obstacle course in your garden.
Molly is fondly called ‘the gazelle’ by her godmother because her legs are so long (they start under her armpits :) and she runs so fast and stealthily on the balls of her feet. So to encourage her fledgling athleticism I decided to add some obstacles in the garden to inject some variety to her running route. With some ‘bog standard’ plumbing supplies here is how we made our DIY garden game…
sometimes her timing is a little off :)
Materials Needed: plumbing/waste pipes, elbow joints, foam plumbing pipe insulation, insulation tape to add the sporty ‘go fast’ stripes. I used the soft foam insulation for the cross bar to save Molly’s skinny legs from bruising when she decided to go through, as opposed to over, the bar !!
Note: when buying the lengths of plumping pipe get the store to cut each length for you before your leave (for Molly’s age cutting in three gave me the perfect height for her jumps)
ready, steady, go……
One: very forcefully and skillfully hammer the plumbing pipes into the grass with whatever’s at hand!!
Two: attach the elbow joint
Three: insert the foam cross bar and add the ‘go fast’ stripes
Molly loved the decorating part, as well as the jumping part :)
