Easy Mask Making
Molly spends her weekends pretending to be someone, or something else, and loves dressing up. She really gets a kick out of masks – they help her get ‘into character’. Here are a few simple ideas for your kids to try at home for Halloween – they can put on a circus show, blast off into space, act like their favourite animal or just scare the neighbours…
Hand Print Mask (above left centre)
Trace the handprints on some craft foam and cut out. Round off the edge under the palm. Cut an eye hole in the center of each hand. You may want to hold them up to your kid’s eyes to get an idea where you want the holes to be. Ensure the palms of the hand overlap about an inch and glue together then decorate with feathers, glitter, stickers. Glue on a lollipop stick at one side and they’re off to the masquerade ball :)
Paper Plate Mask (above lower right)
Use a piece of heavy card or paper plate and just glue strips of crepe paper or wool for hair to decorate it. And you can also paint it if you like
Pumpkin Mask
Paint the back of a paper plate orange. Then draw a jack-o’-lantern’s face. Cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth. Punch a hole in each side of the mask and tie a length of green yarn to each side (or use elastic)
Animal Masks (above lower left)
Zoo Pal Masks (above centre right)
or you could simply download these templates from the Canon site :)
I also found some really inexpensive mask making kits online – $7.99 kit makes 12 masks and great party kits – pirate visors $12.99 for 12, animal masks 24 for $5.99, princess tiaras $3.49 for 12.
