FAB new book find
I haven’t reviewed a book in quite a while, but “Claude” saw to it that books were back on MollyMoo. “Claude” an extravagant, beret-buying, chic, urbanite dog with a sock for a best friend had us gripped from word one, on page one ‘Hello”. Split into two parts this perfectly sized and beautifully illustrated book is an engrossing and giggle out loud darn good read for 5-7year olds.
Molly is at the ‘chapter book’ stage – small page turners that she can totally immerse herself in as we read together. I love seeing the look in her eyes and her expression change as the pictures and possibilities roll around in her head. She turns to me and without words says ‘really’?
I just discovered the Claude series at lunchtime, attracted by the quality and feel of the book and the adorably simple black, white and red illustrations. Molly even ran her hand along the velvety pages as I read – feel it, love it and love it some more.
Just a teeny few of the giggle bits:
“Sir Bobblysock just lay in bed like a sad, sick sock. Hmmm, Claude said, and took Bobblysock’s temperature with a banana”
“Claude didn’t know where to find an ambulance, so he decided to make one. Flashing a torch above his head and shouting ‘Woo! Woo! Woo! for the siren he skated to the hospital with Bobblysock”
“The hospital was a tall white building that smelt of medicine and sticky plasters”

I’m off to make a red felt beret for Molly :)
