A Fairy Bed Made With Twigs And Love
It’s absolute fairy season here on MollyMoo! all the fairies are preparing their homes for autumn and winter, and planning their activities for spending a little more time indoors, so MissMolly and I are helping out by making them a nice comfie fairy bed to sleep on.
We got this idea when walking through Bamboo Boreen in an estate garden during our August holidays, and just ‘had’ to bring some willow home with us.
This is nature crafting at it’s best – just willow reed tied together with jute twine. If you don’t have willow to hand garden-variety twigs will work just fine. The only other thing you need is a glue gun – I recommend the industrial glue guns like Locktite, Stanley, or Surebonder, the smaller ones you get in craft shops just run through glue sticks. To make a fairy bed of your own start by cutting the willow or twigs into uniform lengths, they don’t have to be exact! You need one length for the bed base and shorter lengths for the bed posts.
Lie the twigs down on the table and weave them together with the twine as shown, at either end and in the centre.
Then with your glue gun glue two pieces of willow across the base to keep it stiff and straight.
Glue the bed posts to either end, as shown.
Finish by winding a little twine around each bed post joint, to make the joints good and solid – you don’t want the bed collapsing under the weight of any fairies after a feed of berries or something!!
Voila!! you’ve got a fairy bed.
Now whether you are a human or a fairy no one likes to lie on a hard bed! so give your fairy a little piece of fabric for a blanket, cut a little piece of a bath sponge for a mattress and pillow… whatever you have at hand. Your little ones will have no problem coming up with offerings for the fairy bed :)
Last weekend while watching the X Factor I needle felted a mattress with matching pillow, for cuteness sake! Of course when Molly saw the mattress the following morning she asked for a giant one for her bed!! could you imagine embarking on that mammoth task?! sweet idea love but no xxxxx
The weather has been so blissful here for the past week, our Indian summer, Molly has been leaving the bed outside under the shade of a tree while she chats away to the family of hedgehogs she reckons live in there too. xxxx
Time to get your nature crafting pants on
