Hi Ho! Hi Ho!…it’s off to camp we go

The 1st week of arts and crafts camp at Naíonra Na nÓg, Caherdavin, has come to an end and it’s been very exciting, for the kids and their parents!!.

Teachers Yvonne and Sinead were very loving and caring towards the kids from day one and treated them to an activity rich five days of colouring, painting, gluing, baking, singing and face painting – not to mention a trip to the fire station and pony rides at Mulcahy’s Stables in Birdhill. The camp has been M’s first exposure to Irish – it’s amazing how quickly they can pick up the Cúpla Focal at that age!! Molly may have a few new words to try bossing me around with – anseo and tar isteach – but I think what I love the most is the new playground games she has learned and has been looking to play with me at home in the evenings. Brings me back :)

Naíonra Na nÓg is primarily a pre-school during the school year. Located in the Caherdavin Community Centre they run morning and afternoon classes, five days a week through the medium of Irish, as far as possible. The atmosphere in the school is one of fun and encouragement. I cannot recommend the school highly enough – but be warned they only have two places left for their afternoon sessions, Sept 2010 to June 2011, and their morning sessions are booked out for three years!!
