How hard can it be to bake a cake :(
Time up and the second sponge cake is just a shade better than the first attempt. It had risen (tick), was golden brown (tick) and then the minute I opened the oven door to check if it was spongy to the touch it sunk in the middle. This was Rachel’s ‘basic’ recipe! Looks like I’ll be making an emergency stop to BB’s Muffins in the morning. Sorry M…
Next year I’m going to Tesco’s.
Time to focus on the goodie bags now – at least they don’t have to go in the oven.
Update May 14th: I turned the cake upside down and it looked better so I ploughed on and hoped the kids wouldn’t notice. I made butter icing, used a vegetable peeler to flake over some milkybar white chocolate and added the detail with Dr. Ostker ready to use straight from the tube writing icing and some pretty flowers from the Kitchen Shop on Catherine Street….the kids loved apparently and there’s only crumbs left!! - next year I’ll propably bake again – I’ll never learn.
