just a daydream away….
I think Molly was about four when I took this photo of her on International Dance Day. You wouldn’t know it from the photo but there were over 200 people in the venue that evening, but for that split second it was just Molly, standing on a rattan cushion, utterly transfixed by this elegant “sticky-out-tutu ballerina” twirling in front of her. At that time M was a bit of a nervous nelly, never left my side in crowds, but there she was all of a sudden, feet away, blissfully unaware of the world around her, confident, happy and dreaming……..
Some months later while purchasing a print of Safe & Sound by Australian illustrator Binny. I emailed her a copy of my photograph and asked her if she accepted ‘small’ commissions and how I’d love if she’d consider creating a binny style illustration of the scene for me. Thankfully she accepted and I could afford her very reasonable fee. I’m sure I drove her mad at times requesting little changes here and there but we got there and I just can’t wait for the original print to arrive in the post so I can frame and treasure the memory even more. I think my favourite part of the illustration is how Binny captured Molly’s short pants and stripy top :)
Molly…. you are MY favourite daydream xx
