My school teacher readers …… please consider :)
I am looking to invite new Irish schools to join the Become A Friend programme (I try to welcome two or three new schools each year) – would you and your fellow teachers be interested in joining ??
The nine Kenyan schools in our programme are all traditional maasai ‘bush’ schools, the first time these bright and open hearted kids, from remote semi-nomadic communities, have connected with or learned about school children in such faraway places. It’s a great opportunity for learning and sharing information about eachothers lives and cultures – building bridges of shared experience between children from two totally different worlds.
See a list of the Irish primary schools already in the programme here
We welcome new schools by visiting and making a powerpoint presentation. Virginia, my native Kenyan team mate, teaches the kids some cool Swahili phrases and a song and the kids get to see, touch (and smell) maasai jewellery, percussion instruments and maasai warrior clothes etc – it’s fun, fun, fun. The questions always flow and dreams are shared :)
Have a look at the project website www.becomeafriend.net and you will see how the school-to-school connection works and how our incredible teachers and their pupils share information and enjoy being part of Become A Friend.
I’m the co-ordinator for BAF in Ireland so if you’d like to explore the possibilities for your school email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank You (Asanta Sana)
