Self Publishing – the Blurb way!
Getting ready to publish the first MollyMoo ebook very shortly I have been exploring all options for self publishing for the past few weeks and months. One of my favourite platforms is Blurb, who offer a very accessible online platform for publishing print books, magazines and e-books for me, you and everyone, in an affordable and easy way (it’s as easy as ordering photo prints!!).
I love the concept of self-publishing, being in control of the look and feel of your book, creating memorable shelf-ready photo book gifts for grandparents, family and friends, or creating a hardbound book of your children’s stories and illustrations – how cool would that be! I’ve been using Blurb to create mini photo books of Molly’s birthdays, the next one will be ‘a year of playdates’ and for her tenth birthday I plan on making a book of all her gorgeous artwork and drawings from when she first held a chubby little crayon…. precious keepsakes for her as she grows up, instead of boxes of loose photos, or a CD of all my iphone photos.
Blurb recently sent me a copy of An Expected Blossom to have a look at, a hardbound self-published book by Victor Khramov, an industrial designer with an interest in storytelling. It’s a Colour-Your-Story book for kids to colour his unfinished illustrations to their own liking! Love that! Victor’s illustrations are just so delicious, hand drawn with lovely shadows behind the main cat character that make you want to just lift him right off the page for a cuddle.
Molly has read it a few times now, loving the ‘friendship conquers all’ storyline. I love that through Blurb the author has been able to self-publish this beautiful, professional bookstore-quality book, and we have been able to read and enjoy a book that might not otherwise be so readily available. So blurb makes it possible for anyone with an idea for a book to just go ahead and do it!
You can buy a copy of An Expected Blossom on blurb for €32.90. It would make for a sweetheart of a Christmas Gift for young readers, or for parents to read to their little ones.
OR if you’re wracking your brain to think of something novel to give to friends this year consider giving them a voucher for creating photo-books of their own favourite family photos, just like the ones I am creating for Molly xx she will thank me in years to come! she better :)
This post was kindly sponsored by Blurb, but all opinions about their service and An Expected Blossom, the choice to support them, and the project itself are my own.
