Rainbow & Pot of Gold St Patrick’s Day Craft
Looking for a crafty way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the kids? How about making a rainbow and pot of gold or toilet roll shamrock with them? This cute St Patrick’s Day craft for kids is so much fun and such an easy way to bring children the magic of St. Patrick’s Day.
Here’s what you’ll need!
- Toilet paper roll
- Craft Paint (Black, Green, White, and Yellow)
- Paint Brush
- Sharpie Marker
- Glue Gun
- Styrofoam piece
- Pipe Cleaners (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple)
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Optional: Money and wooden skewer
Got your materials? Great. Now let’s make ourselves a magical rainbow!
Trim your toilet paper roll tube to about ½ – ¾ of its original size. Then, cut out an oval grass shape and cloud shape from your corrugated cardboard. You’ll also need to trim a hunk of styrofoam so that it fits snugly inside your toilet paper roll tube.
Special note: When cutting out the cloud shape, make sure that the cloud’s cardboard has corrugated holes going through it, like in the photograph. This way you can push your pipe cleaners easily through the holes.
Now it’s time to paint your cardboard pieces and then decorate them with the sharpie marker. Hot glue your tube onto your grass.
Push your styrofoam piece down into your toilet paper roll tube. Using a wooden skewer (or pencil) poke six holes into the styrofoam block.
Slip your pipe cleaners into your cloud.
Then poke the other ends into your styrofoam block. You’ll probably need to adjust the rainbow arch a couple of times to get it right.
Add any pennies or coins for the Leprechaun’s gold stash!.
Tada! Now your child can follow their very own rainbow to a magical pot of gold!
“Five little leprechauns running out to play,
Found a big rainbow blocking their way!
Follow me, cried one, running fast and bold,
He slid down the rainbow towards the pot of gold!”
Happy making, friends!
