Toilet Roll Craft- Make a Minion

It’s all about Despicable Me 2 at the moment, they’re such a huge drive behind the movie release and if the first awesomely brilliant movie is anything to go by this second visit to the world of Gru and the Minions will be even better. I can’t wait for it’s release on the 28th.

So during the build up to the 28th what better was to spend your time than to Make A Minion from everyday household bits and pieces. All you need is toilet roll cores, newspaper, cardboard, glue, wool, a black sharpie and some paint…. oh and googly eyes :)

Toilet Roll Crafts for Kids – How to Make A Minion

First, stuff the toilet roll core with some newspaper, this will give your character more solidity and weight. Then make a ball from newspaper and insert this half way in on one side, so that a semi-circle peeks over the top of the toilet roll

Next secure the newspaper in position with some tape, I used paper tape but masking or cellotape will work just as well.

Now add one layer of papier mache to the side and domed end to give your Minion a protective skin to hold everything together and the perfect single texture surface to paint on.

And onto decorating we go…

1 Paint the entire surface in yellow
2 Stick one googly eye on the front and cut circles of cardboard to fit around the eye

2 With a black sharpie draw the band of the goggles around the head from each side of the eye piece

3 Get whatever coloured wool you have and glue onto the head, in whatever style you wish (I used fast drying Copydex)

4 Now paint on the base colour for the clothes – dungarees, dresses, tshirt and shorts – sky’s the limit. The black sharpie marker is perfect for adding the details to the clothes, and I jused a Q-tip dipped in coloured paint for the designs on the girl minion’s dress

5 For the arms I used a small piece of rolled up newspaper, painted yellow and black, cut at an angel with a scissors, attached to the body with a glue gun. Copydex would also work for the arms – you will just have to hold them in place a little longer while the glue dries!!

and there you have it – easy to make cute toilet roll minions

I use little tester pots of household paint or acrylic paint for more solid colour finish Carolina.
