Back To School Time Capsule
Last year we started a time capsule tradition to mark M’s first day back at school. We’re going to dig it out of ‘the secret press’ in the next two weeks and see how much she has grown and changed in the year, and start a new one for her first day at ‘big school. Here’s what we put in our capsule:
– a piece of wool which measured her height
– tracings of her hands and feet
– a lock of hair
– one of her recent drawings
- and a page of her innocent answers to some ‘very’ important questions!
We just used one of her small shoe boxes, and Molly really enjoyed sealing it up tight with parcel tape and decorating with glitter pens and stickers :)
what were the important questions?! read on
Her favourite teacher’s name – Ann
Favourite song - Hallelujah
Favourite food – milky bars
Favourite sweet – milky bars!
Favourite toy – Strawberry Shortcake
Favourite book – Sleeping Beauty
Favourite cartoon – Scooby Doo
Favourite colour – pink (another shock)
Favourite animal - giraffe and monkey!
Favourite shoes – wedding shoes, the ones with the sparkles on
I though it would also be nice to record some of her innocent little answers to questions such as
What do you want to be when you’re bigger? – Princess (shock!)
What do you love doing? – ballerina & working on computers!
Who’s your favourite princess? – Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Jasmine…
I also put in a lock of her hair and one of her recent drawings. If your child is old enough they could also do a little self portrait.
When the time capsule is ready you could decorate the outside of the container with the name, date and of course stickers, glued on beads or pictures. Instead of a small shoe box you could use a coffee jar, biscuit tin or tupperware container maybe.
If anyone else is interested in doing this why not send in some photos of your capsule and I’ll add a little gallery of your great ideas on the site – send photos to firstname.lastname@example.org
