Purdy Pumpkin Decorating

I bought two miniature pumpkins in my local shop at the weekend for simple kitchen window decorations but they didn’t last there long before Molly, attracted to all things cute!!, took them in hand and started knocking on them and listening for the reply knocks!!! The two little pumpkins then had a very pumpkin chat before she started stacking them and screeched “wow mom, it’s a pumpkin man”.

Delighted with her discovery I suggested instead of carving we decorate the little guy, so off we took in different directions to gather sticks, buttons, a hammer and my picture hanging kit!

I pushed the picture tacks into the pumpkin flesh, just enough to anchor them, and gave Molly the freedom to hammer them in. She LOVED LOVED LOVED hammering – and would happily have decorated the entire pumpkin if we had enough buttons and tacks. Having the pins anchored and steady meant she didn’t have to have her precious little fingers anywhere near the pins so hammering was safe for her to do on her own (and I could breath easy).

I gauged a hole in the base of the smaller head pumpkin for the stalk of the bigger pumpkin to slot into, and made holes in the flesh for Molly to push the stick arms in.

Finally with a permanent marker she drew the cheesy grin on his purdy little face and he went straight into service by the front door :)

Happy Halloween Everyone xx
